About Me

I am a percussionist, writer and web developer. At 19 years old, I dreamt of a beautiful goddess rising out of the ocean, calling out to me. At the time, I began studying African Brazilian and Cuban rhythms on percussion instruments. Many years later, I realized through friends who were practitioners of Santeria (a religion brought to Cuba by African slaves) that this goddess was Yemanja, or Iemanja, as she is known in Brazil. I have been passionate about the study of African religions in the new world ever since. I continue to explore and experience the mystical, transcendent aspects of Candomblé drumming, and am writing my dissertation for the doctoral degree in Mythological Studies at Pacifica Graduate Institute.
