George Yeo 杨荣文
Introduction | George Yeo was the top 'O' Level student in 1970. A President's Scholar and Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Scholar, he studied Engineering at Cambridge University. George Yeo served in the SAF as a Signals Officer. In 1979, he attended the Singapore Command and Staff College and topped his class. He was transferred to the Air Force, and later became Head of the Air Plans Department. In 1983, George Yeo went to Harvard Business School and graduated with an MBA with High Distinction. He was appointed Chief-of-Staff of the Air Staff upon his return to Singapore in 1985. In 1986, he became Director of Joint Operations and Planning in the Ministry of Defence, and was promoted to the rank of Brigadier-General in 1988. He left the SAF in 1988 to enter politics and was elected to Parliament as a Member of Parliament (MP) for the Aljunied Group Representation Constituency (GRC) on 3 September 1988. He has held several portfolios including Minister of State for Finance, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Acting Minister for Information and the Arts, Minister for Health and Minister for Trade and Industry. George Yeo was appointed Minister for Foreign Affairs in 2004. |
