| Introduction | Tony Yin Tak Chu came to Canada from Hong Kong in 1996; his work has revolved around his cultural identity as a Chinese immigrant. While primarily a painter, various processes are employed including digitalized images. Also, he paints mostly with readymade as well as everyday elements. By rejecting the traditional mediums, like oil or acrylic, he investigates the possibility of creating a different kind of work in a contemporary world. Tony is interested in travelling exhibitions; since 2003, his work has been exhibited in Toronto, Mexico, China, New York, Regina, and various public art galleries in BC including Richmond, where he is based. In 2006, Tony received a BFA from Emily Carr University of Art and Design. To support his practice, he also works part time at the Richmond Art Gallery as an attendant. In January 2011, Tony made his first installation art at a public space in Richmond’s Lansdowne Shopping Centre. In May, Tony had his first solo exhibition at a commercial gallery, Hunter Bisset in Vancouver. |
