Introduction | I was born in Moscow in 1954 of a Polish father and half-Irish mother. My grandfather, an Irishman from Mayo, was arrested in 1940 while working in Moscow, and sent to the GULAG where he spent 13 years. His crime was being a native English speaker. He was the only one of the five Irishmen to survive the labour camps. As for me, I lived in Russia and Germany (since 1999), and now live in Dublin as an Irish citizen. I am a poet, fiction writer and literary translator, a member of the Russian Writers' Union and the Irish PEN. I am also editor of Shamrock Haiku Journal (www.freewebs.com/shamrockhaiku) and a member of the Board of the Irish Haiku Society (www.freewebs.com/irishhaiku). I work with a group of aspiring writers from Ireland's ethnic minorities (including refugees and asylum seekers), doing classes with them in the Irish Writers Centre. There's no fee for participants, and everyone can join the group. I have a website at http://uk.geocities.com/akudryavitsky You can also visit my Russian website at www.kudryavitsky.narod.ru |
