The current auction features almost 400 rare <a href="http://www.hakes.com/search.asp?Auction=193&CategoryID=336">Disney art collectibles</a>, including some rare Disney <a href="http://www.hakes.com/search.asp?Auction=193&CategoryID=425">artwork</a>, such as a Gustaf Tenggren sketch from <span style="font-style: italic;">The Old Mill </span>and the first Donald Duck model sheet from the short, <span style="font-style: italic;">The Wise Little Hen</span>. Emru experienced difficulty finishing the tasks for the auction this year due to a mystery ailment in the last two weeks. On Tuesday, he was diagnosed with leukemia (in its early stages) and today he begins treatment. Cancer research and prevention is everybody's issue, as the whole team at fps is being reminded right now. I sincerely thank you for supporting this effort.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;">Special Thanks<br /><br /><span style="font-size:85%;">THE CHARITY</span><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.src-crs.ca/"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/blog/uploaded_images/crslogo-777622.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><a href="http://www.src-crs.ca/">The Cancer Research Society</a> endorsed this auction. We didn't have time to write about each item, so you may want to take a last look at <a href="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/auction.php">all of the items</a> on the auction block.<br /><br />I would like to draw your attention to some items that are harder to find:<br /><br /><a href="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/auction.php#books"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/blog/uploaded_images/animated-cartoons-lutz-798600.JPG" alt="" border="0" /></a><ul><li>The 1926 edition of the 1922 book <span style="font-style: italic;">Animated Cartoons</span> by E.G. Toon Boom has provided Toon Boom Express, a value-priced version of Toon Boom Studio, while Softimage has donated the academic version of Softimage|XSI 6 Advanced—it has all the features of Advanced, but it's at a much lower price for students and teachers.<br /><br />Softimage has also donated promotional XSI "I Want Six" t-shirts.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/auction.php">Go to the fps charity auction page</a><br /><a href="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/blog/2007/11/charity-auction-2007-shorts.php">Charity Auction 2007: The Shorts</a><br /><a href="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/blog/2007/11/charity-auction-2007-hellboy-animated.php">Charity Auction 2007: Hellboy Animated Statue</a>Kino Kidhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16104036201327633645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8409810.post-73221369516778997442007-11-24T14:14:00.000-05:002008-03-02T15:40:41.125-05:00Charity Auction 2007: The Shorts<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/auction.php#dvds"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;" src="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/blog/uploaded_images/soundmirrors-738791.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>This year's <a href="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/auction.php">charity auction</a> includes donations from the National Film Board's library of acclaimed films. We discussed the awesomeness of <a href="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/blog/2007/05/two-podcasts-for-madame-tutli-putli.php"><span style="font-style: italic;">Madame Tutli-Putli</span></a>, <span style="font-style: italic;">The Danish Poet </span>and <span style="font-style: italic;">Ryan</span> in the past, and now you can own a copy and give to a good cause.<br /><br />Steadfast donors <a href="http://www.3dtotal.com/">3D Total</a> have donated their annual collections of CG shorts, <span style="font-style: italic;">The Shorts Drawer</span>, for 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007, each featuring the best animation submissions they have received for each year.<br /><br />The music label Ninja Tune, has donated DVDs of music videos, including animated contributions, in addition to their backlist of Zen TV (featuring Monkmus' <a href="http://www.ninjatune.net/videos/video.php?type=qt&id=56"><span style="font-style: italic;">Basin Street Blues</span></a> and<span style="font-style: italic;"> <a href="http://www.ninjatune.net/videos/video.php?type=qt&id=21">Fender Bender</a></span> videos for Kid Koala, and the <span style="font-style: italic;">Pinball Number Count </span>many grew up with on Sesame Street) and Mr. Scruff's <a href="http://www.ninjatune.net/videos/video.php?type=flv&id=43"><span style="font-style: italic;">Sweetsmoke</span></a> videos (animated by Mr. Scruff), they've donated the Coldcut video and remix collection, <span style="font-style: italic;">Sound Mirrors</span>. The duo Coldcut started the Ninja Tune label in the 90s, and for their latest project they decided to leave the reins to a different director for each song of their most recent album of the same name.<br /><br />The result yielded videos which were almost entirely of the animated variety, and each is very different. My favourites are <a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://www.ninjatune.net/videos/video.php?type=flv&id=107">This Island Earth</a> (<a href="http://www.joeltrussell.com/">Joel Trussell</a>, who also directed <span style="font-style: italic;">War Photographer</span>), <a href="http://www.ninjatune.net/videos/video.php?type=flv&id=106"><span style="font-style: italic;">Colours The Soul</span></a>, and the pixillated <a href="http://www.ninjatune.net/videos/video.php?type=flv&id=105"><span style="font-style: italic;">State We're In</span>.</a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/auction.php">Go to the fps charity auction page</a><br /><a href="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/blog/2007/11/charity-auction-2007-hellboy-animated.php">Charity Auction 2007: Hellboy Animated Statue</a>Kino Kidhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16104036201327633645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8409810.post-27683657606117577932007-11-14T00:18:00.000-05:002007-11-14T01:16:32.251-05:00Charity Auction 2007: Hellboy Animated Statue<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/pdf/fps-charity-auction-2007.pdf"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px;" src="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/gfx/charity-auction-2007.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br />This year's <a href="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/auction.php">charity auction</a> begins next week Friday. We've received some nice books, posters, and look what <a href="http://www.darkhorse.com/">Dark Horse Comics</a> is offering up: A PVC statue from<span style="font-style: italic;"> </span><a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://www.darkhorse.com/profile/profile.php?sku=13-782">Hellboy Animated</a> of Hellboy (and another of <a href="http://www.darkhorse.com/profile/profile.php?sku=13-931">Abe Sapien</a>).<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/blog/uploaded_images/hellboy_dark_horse-789262.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/blog/uploaded_images/hellboy_dark_horse-789259.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br /><span style="font-style: italic;">Hellboy</span> was created for comics by Mike Mignola, who also created the comic book <a href="http://www.darkhorse.com/profile/profile.php?sku=11-820"><span style="font-style: italic;">The Amazing Screw-on Head</span></a>. Both comics went on to be adapted for animation. While <span style="font-style: italic;">The Amazing Screw-on Head</span> kept Mignola's signature style, <a href="http://hellboyanimated.typepad.com/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Hellboy</span><span style="font-style: italic;"> Animated</span></a> opted for a different look, with equally impressive results.<br /><br />Click on the flyer for a printer-friendly version. Yesterday I tallied the votes that had come in, and you've once again chosen to donate the proceeds from this November's auction to cancer research. Now we're asking for just one more bit of <span style="font-style: italic;">vox populi</span> from you. Head over to the <a href="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/auction.php">auction page</a> and vote to decide which organization will be the one we'll be writing the cheque out to when the dust settles.<br /><br />While you're there, you might also want to see our list of <a href="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/auction.php#items">auction items</a>, which I've finally gotten around to updating somewhat. Two items of note are a <span style="font-style: italic;">Meet the Robinsons</span> baseball cap, made specifically for the feature animation crew that worked on the film (it says so right on the back), and a gorgeous <span style="font-style: italic;">Art of Disney</span> catalogue from the Tokyo exhibit of the same name. I was going to gingerly scan segments of the book, but Chris Turner did such a great job back in November I decided to just link to <a href="http://www.evasiveart.com/blogger/2006/11/art-of-disney.html">his page</a> instead. If you read Japanese (or just like to look at cool images), you can also see more about the exhibit itself on the <a href="http://www.disney.co.jp/disneyart/index2.html">official page</a>.<br /><br />While there are some auction items I haven't gotten around to listing yet, there's always room for more. Though our fourth annual charity auction doesn't kick off until November, it's time for us to ask you to let us know who you want this year's beneficiary to be. In this first round of voting, we keep it simple: just <a href="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/auction.php">let us know</a> what kind of charity you prefer, and at a later date we'll narrow it down to a particular charity.<br /><br />We've also started collecting items for this year's auction, and while we've got some nifty goodies lined up, we've only got one listed right now: a 1922 edition of the book <span style="font-style: italic;">Animated Cartoons</span> by E.G. Lutz—one of the earliest books on the technique of animation, and the same title that Walt Disney consulted early in his career. This book was generously donated by <a href="http://www.jjsedelmaier.com/">J.J. Sedelmaier</a> when we were a few days into last year's auction; if you'd like to donate something to the cause, then by all means <a href="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/auction.php#donations">let us know</a>.Emru Townsendhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12913728859380797801noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8409810.post-1166921645460492102006-12-23T18:39:00.000-05:002006-12-23T22:46:16.623-05:002006 Charity Auction ReportWell here it is, the end of the line. The payments have been received, Paypal and eBay have their fees, and the total for the annual <a href="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/auction.php">animation charity auction</a> has been determined. This year's recipient, The <a href="http://www.cancer.ca">Canadian Cancer Society</a>, will receive $2158.07 Canadian (about $1877 US). This is the second year that readers have voted for this charity, and we managed to beat last year's profits by about $800.<br /><br />Thanks to:<br /><ul><li>Our steadfast donors: <a href="http://www.3dtotal.com">3D Total</a>, <a href="http://www.foxhome.com">20th Century Fox Home Entertainment</a>, <a href="http://www.anchorbayentertainment.com">Anchor Bay</a>, <a href="http://www.autodesk.com">Autodesk</a>, <a href="http://www.geneon.com">Geneon</a>, <a href="http://www.harpercollins.com">HarperCollins</a>, <a href="http://www.animationfestival.ca">Ottawa International Animation Festival</a> and <a href="http://www.toonboom.com">Toon Boom Animation</a></li><li>Our new donors were equally generous: <a href="http://www.yennycomics.com">Dave Alvarez</a>, <a href="http://cartoonmodern.blogsome.com">Amid Amidi</a>, <a href="http://www.boneville.com/bone/" target="_blank">Boneville Press</a>, <a href="http://www.efrontier.com">e frontier</a>, <a href="http://www.mcanime.com">Marché clandestin</a>, <a href="http://www.nfb.ca">National Film Board of Canada</a>, <a href="http://www.ninjatune.net">Ninja Tune</a>, <a href="http://www.ppi.co.jp">Polygon Pictures</a>, <a href="http://www.steverude.com">Steve Rude</a>, <a href="http://www.softimage.com">Softimage</a>, <a href="http://www.tokyopop.com">Tokyopop</a> and <a href="http://www.joeltrussell.com">Joel Trussell</a></li><li>Everyone who helped spread the word about the auction dates and the items up for bid.</li><li>All of the bidders for taking part<br /></li><li>The winners for impressively prompt payments this year, and adding extra cash to final bids and telling us to "keep the change" so more would go to charity</li></ul>This year was the first time artwork was donated for the auction, and the amount of software received skyrocketed. He mentioned that 2 copies of each software were donated on the blog, but neglected to include this in the individual listings. So he'll be offering a second chance to the runner-up bidders of these items. All of the opening bids began at 50% of the retail value, just one of the many deals in the auction.<ul style="text-align: left;"><li><a href="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/blog/2006/11/fps-charity-auction-day-1_23.php">Day 1 - Artwork</a>: For the first time, we had original artwork donated by the artists Dave Alvarez, Steve Rude and Joel Trussell, and each with their own distinct signature styles. It's no secret—we really like their work, so we got kind of goofy when they agreed to participate.<br /></li></ul><ul style="text-align: left;"><li><a href="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/blog/2006/11/fps-charity-auction-day-2.php">Day 2 - Books</a>: Great animation books and manga were donated. Mark Lytle described the charity auction as "<a href="http://www.digitalworldtokyo.com/2006/11/annual_fps_charity_auction_nir.php">nirvana for anime fans</a>." He's not far off. Since its inception, <span style="font-style: italic;">fps</span> has had more anime coverage than any other non-anime-specific animation magazine, and that's reflected even in our auctions.<br /><br />Let's start with the gem we have pictured here, the limited edition of the seventh and final volume of <span style="font-style: italic;">Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd Gig</span>. Not only does it contain the last three episodes of what is arguably one of the best science-fiction shows on television in both Dolby Digital and DTS, it comes with a limited-edition figure of the Major and the third <span style="font-style: italic;">Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex</span> soundtrack by Yoko Kanno. Oh, and did I mention the whole thing is wrapped up in a collectible tin case?<br /><br />While not as lavish, we're featuring several other <a href="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/auction.php#dvd">DVDs</a> like <span style="font-style: italic;">Elemental Gelade</span>, <span style="font-style: italic;">Kannazuki no Miko</span>, <span style="font-style: italic;">Gun Sword</span> and <span style="font-style: italic;">Kyo Kara Maoh! (God Save Our King)</span> that include "art boxes"—stylish containers for holding the rest of the DVDs in the series—as well as collectible items like pencil boards and figures. We also raided our own shelves to put together some complete series, like <span style="font-style: italic;">New Fist of the North Star</span>, <span style="font-style: italic;">Tsukikage Ran</span> and <span style="font-style: italic;">The Daichis</span>, so you can have your own marathon viewing session the moment you open the box.<br /><br />PSP owners can tote their anime with them, as we've got four <a href="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/auction.php#umd">UMDs</a> in the mix: <span style="font-style: italic;">Ninja Scroll</span>, the CGI <span style="font-style: italic;">Appleseed</span> movie, <span style="font-style: italic;">Karas: The Propechy</span> and the first two episodes of <span style="font-style: italic;">Samurai Champloo</span>. If you're into anime for the music, we've also got the <a href="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/auction.php#cd">soundtracks</a> from <span style="font-style: italic;">Totoro, Spirited Away, End of Evangelion</span> and <span style="font-style: italic;">Metropolis</span>.<br /><br />Remarkably enough, there's more—quite literally, there are dozens of anime and manga items to be found this year, including <a href="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/auction.php#apparel">t-shirts</a>, <a href="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/auction.php#posters">wall scrolls</a> and even two sets of <a href="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/auction.php#collect">Japanese commemorative stamps</a>. With so much stuff and only two days to go, you'd better start exploring the <a href="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/auction.php">auction page</a> pretty darned quick.Emru Townsendhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12913728859380797801noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8409810.post-1164604051116708972006-11-26T23:45:00.000-05:002006-11-27T00:07:31.133-05:00fps Charity Auction Day 5<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/blog/uploaded_images/cars-757064.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/blog/uploaded_images/cars-754169.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br />We have some great <a href="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/auction.php#posters">posters</a> up for grabs, including full-size posters for <span style="font-style: italic;">Finding Nemo</span> and <span style="font-style: italic;">Cars</span>. Two standouts are Kid Koala's <span style="font-style: italic;">Basin Street Blues </span>and <span style="font-style: italic;">Fender Bender</span>, directed by <a href="http://www.monkmus.com/">Monkmus</a>.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/blog/uploaded_images/2096k-799260.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 175px; height: 123px;" src="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/blog/uploaded_images/2096k-797205.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>Both of these appear on the ZenTV DVD, a Ninja Tune video retrospective, and of the nearly three dozen videos, Wagon Christ's <span style="font-style: italic;">Receiver</span>, Amon Tobin's <span style="font-style: italic;">Verbal</span>, Bonobo's <span style="font-style: italic;">Flutter</span> and <span style="font-style: italic;">Pick Up</span>, and DJ Food's <a href="http://muppet.wikia.com/wiki/Pinball_Number_Count"><span style="font-style: italic;">Pinball Number Count</span></a> remix from Sesame Street, number among the animated contributions.<br /><br />10 copies of this item have been donated for the auction.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/blog/uploaded_images/ZEN12124-719453.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 82px; height: 82px;" src="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/blog/uploaded_images/ZEN12124-717249.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>Now, it's one thing for a recording artist to write their own songs, but animating their own videos? We also received 10 Mr. Scruff DVD singles for <span style="font-style: italic;">Sweetsmoke</span>, which feature 3 deceptively simple animated videos, animated and directed by Mr. Scruff.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/auction.php"><span style="font-size:85%;">Go to the Auction page</span></a>Kino Kidhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16104036201327633645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8409810.post-1164384920636584132006-11-24T10:58:00.000-05:002006-11-24T11:15:20.653-05:00fps Charity Auction Day 3<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/blog/uploaded_images/rocky-bank-711981.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;" src="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/blog/uploaded_images/rocky-bank-709635.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>Thanks to the vagaries of shipping, we got four new items for the auction yesterday that have just been added to the listings. These are all courtesy of Polygon Pictures, the anime studio currently working on the CG television series <span style="font-style: italic;">Akihabara@Deep</span>.<br /><br />Three of the items—two banks, one women's turtleneck—feature Rocky and Hopper, a pair of rockhopper penguins who for years have been the faces of Shiseido's Superhard Hair Glue. None of these items are available for sale in Japan any longer.<br /><br />The fourth item is a red t-shirt featuring the husband from the super-silly CG short <span style="font-style: italic;">The Polygon Family</span>, in which a husband comes home late and drunk, and he and his wife fight it out arcade-game style. The shirts were designed by <span style="font-style: italic;">Polygon Family</span> director Hiroshi Chida, and were made for the Polygon Pictures studio.<br /><br />Just for fun, here are some links to the Rocky and Hopper ads produced by Polygon Pictures, one of manga artist Takehiko Inoue's Anti-Oily Uno ads for Shiseido, and the <span style="font-style: italic;">Polygon Family</span> short. The Anti-Oily Uno ad has nothing to do with the auction, but it's fun to watch. I'd like to see more of Shiseido's animated commercials over here.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dCukZvfLE4A">Superhard Hair Glue - DJ</a><br /><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udgOd0DIOeE">Superhard Hair Glue - Snowboarding</a><br /><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbf_ACo1878">Superhard Hair Glue - Outdoor</a><br /><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aheW_FfLIr8">Superhard Hair Glue - Brother Penguin</a><br /><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8cJqHUdP_A">Superhard Hair Glue - Sister Penguin</a><br /><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B42sK-8jlVo">Anti-Oily Uno</a><br /><a href="http://www.devilducky.com/media/14395/">Polygon Family</a>Emru Townsendhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12913728859380797801noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8409810.post-1164343014498242472006-11-23T23:02:00.000-05:002006-11-24T00:07:58.326-05:00fps Charity Auction Day 2<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/blog/uploaded_images/auction-anim-unltd-772552.JPG"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 83px; height: 95px;" src="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/blog/uploaded_images/auction-anim-unltd-770434.JPG" alt="" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/blog/uploaded_images/cartoon-modern-743998.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 120px; height: 95px;" src="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/blog/uploaded_images/cartoon-modern-742249.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/blog/uploaded_images/kingdom-hearts-set-737254.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 132px; height: 95px;" src="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/blog/uploaded_images/kingdom-hearts-set-734818.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/blog/uploaded_images/auction-anim-art-744657.JPG"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 88px; height: 95px;" src="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/blog/uploaded_images/auction-anim-art-742887.JPG" alt="" border="0" /></a>Yesterday, I mentioned that a signed copy of Jeff Smith's <span style="font-style: italic;">Bone </span>Volume One was donated to the charity auction, but there are additional <a href="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/auction.php#book">books</a> on the block:<br /><ul><li>Amid Amidi, of <a href="http://www.cartoonbrew.com">Cartoon Brew</a> and <a href="http://www.animationblast.com">Animation Blast</a>, has donated a signed copy of his book <span style="font-style: italic;">Cartoon Modern</span>, which he will personalize for the bidder.</li><li><span style="font-style: italic;">Animation Art</span>, is up for bid again this year. This year's profits go to the Canadian Cancer Society.<br /><p><br />This year, we have some <a href="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/auction.php#artwork">original artwork</a> up for auction. Emru mentioned <a href="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/blog/2006/10/fps-charity-auction-2006-update-steve.php">earlier</a> that <a href="http://www.steverude.com/">Steve "The Dude" Rude</a> donated 11 animation drawings from a sequence of his <span style="font-style: italic;">Nexus </span>trailer. The animated short is based on the comic book of the same name that ran in the '80s and '90s and had a number of influences, and it's safe to say one was the Hanna-Barbera action and space adventure-themed shows.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.joeltrussell.com/">Joel Trussell</a>, who directed two videos I love, <a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://www.abacuscreativemanagement.com/artists/trussell/videos/video3.htm">War Photographer</a> and, more recently, <a href="http://www.ninjatune.net/videos/video.php?type=flv&id=107"><span style="font-style: italic;">This Island Earth</span></a>, donated an original painting. It is already framed with a matte.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.yennycomics.com">Dave Alvarez</a> donated a page from <span style="font-style: italic;">Looney Tunes</span> #106 with Foghorn Leghorn and Egbert. If you enjoy his work on <span style="font-style: italic;">Looney Tunes</span>, you'll love his work on <a href="http://www.gocomics.com/yenny/"><span style="font-style: italic;">Yenny</span></a>, his original creation with engaging characters and a demonstration of his love of the female form.<br /><br />Another cartoonist has made a donation, but you'll find it in the <a href="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/auction.php#book">books</a> section. <a href="http://www.boneville.com">Jeff Smith</a> has donated a signed, sketched-in copy of <a style="font-style: italic;" href="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/blog/2006/11/recommended-reading-bone.php">Bone</a> Volume One in hardcover.</p><span style="font-size:85%;"><a href="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/auction.php">Go to the Auction page</a></span>Kino Kidhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16104036201327633645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8409810.post-1163392039502269662006-11-12T23:07:00.000-05:002006-11-13T21:44:46.916-05:00fps Charity Auction 2006 Update: DVD Box Sets, Figures, Software<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/blog/uploaded_images/xsi-719343.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;" src="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/blog/uploaded_images/xsi-717033.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>Head over to our <a href="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/auction.php">auction</a> page and you'll notice a few more logos near the bottom, representing a trio of new donors: Tokyopop, Geneon and Softimage. Earlier in the week we received a box of Tokyopop goods, including an armful of manga volumes and a <span style="font-style: italic;">Princess Ai</span> t-shirt and collectible doll. There are also a handful of <span style="font-style: italic;">Princess Ai</span> bookmarks we'll be including with the first manga volumes that are shipped out. Geneon has contributed several DVD box sets and starter sets (single DVDs with fancy boxes for the rest of the series, sometimes with extra collectibles), plus Hellsing action figures.<br /><br />The final contribution should set animators' hearts aflutter: Softimage has also generously donated two copies of Softimage|XSI Foundation, the "personal suite" edition of their complete modelling-rendering-animation tool; Softimage|XSI Foundation has an MSRP of $495, so this is your chance to stock your studio inexpensively.<br /><br />Just about everything's linked from the <a href="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/auction.php">auction</a> page, so head on over and get more info. While we're putting up posters in our neck of the woods and otherwise publicizing the event, we'd appreciate it if you could do the same. You can download posters in <a href="/auction-2006-english.pdf">English</a> and <a href="/auction-2006-french.pdf">French</a> to put up in your local comic store, coffee shop, cinema, or anywhere else that can reach the animation and film fans in your town.<br /><br />We've also started to create auction-related banners to add to our regular roster. If you already display our <a href="/banners/">banners</a> on your site, then you don't have to do anything; they'll automatically update as we change them. If you don't display our banners, then keep an eye on our <a href="/auction.php">auction page</a>; over the next few days, we'll be providing banner graphics and instructions.Emru Townsendhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12913728859380797801noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8409810.post-1162790254269649472006-11-06T00:01:00.000-05:002006-11-06T00:17:34.286-05:00fps Charity Auction 2006 Update: Anime, Manga, and Tons O' Software<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/blog/uploaded_images/poser-6-706211.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer;" src="http://www.fpsmagazine.com/blog/uploaded_images/poser-6-703595.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>It's been a busy week. Between 3D Total, Autodesk, e frontier, Marché Clandestin, the Ottawa International Animation Festival, Toon Boom Animation, and a few more trips to our own vaults, we've added several dozen new items: CD soundtracks, DVDs, manga, posters, t-shirts, and even a spiffy coffee mug. However, this time around I'm going to spotlight the software.<br /><br />The <span style="font-style: italic;">fps</span> readership has always included animators and animators-in-training, so we're quite pleased that Autodesk, e frontier and Toon Boom Animation contributed some of the tools of the trade. Toon Boom donated 2 copies of Toon Boom Studio Express, while e frontier kicked in 2 copies each of Poser 6, Anime Studio 5, MotionArtist 3.0 and Shade 8. All of these will be available to the auction winners as digital downloads for either Windows or Macintosh platforms. Meanwhile, Autodesk has contributed six training DVDs for 3ds Max users. Details, specifications and images for all of the new items are on our <a href="/auction.php">auction page</a>.Emru Townsendhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12913728859380797801noreply@blogger.com2
