After taking pictures today I came to realize that what we choose to see is only to draw attention to how we feel. Our conscious is in a constant battle of self awareness. Although, that voice is not always a voice rather an adaptation through who we are. Our conscious is here to guides us to what is really wrong with us.

He grew accustomed to the sharpness and attention to detail that the military acquired in there everyday and formal attire. Soon after serving in the military Eugene's habits became a passion. So, he picked up his gear and moved to New York, where he now attends F.I.T. Graduation is soon to come but, I already see great success for Eugene. I'm looking forward to seeing what's next. Toma! Recorta la Grasa!

(Spicy tomato curry chicken, Kidneys bean w/ a mild sofrito sauce all on a bed of brown rice)

For those who don't know, I love to cook. Being born in Puerto Rico and raised in Florida, I was brought up cooking with my mother. Whether it was chopping garlic for the sofrito or trimming the fat from chicken, my mother always gave me a job. "Toma, recorta la grasa!" (Here! trim the fat!), as my mother placed a sharp knife on the counter beside me..."con cuido" (be careful). At this point I was always the man (machismo 101: know how to handle a knife). Eventually I got a little older and I was forced to cook for myself. My parents worked late hours so, the majority of the time when I came home from school the house was empty and the radio was always left on. My brother was barley home so, I couldn't go to him either. My love for cooking was on the back burner, not quit there yet. At this point in my life cooking was nearly just a form of survival.

The real passion starting when I moved to New York. A story replays its self and once again I'm forced to cook for myself just to make budget. Now at the time, I had just stopped painting and moved more into music. Subconsciously I was looking for a replacement to fill my yearnings to paint and cooking just swooped right in. I felt like I never stopped painting. Till this day, I pair flavors just like complementary colors. If cooking was just based on feelings I wouldn't know the difference.

PeopleForProgression x DJ NU ERA

I couldn't think of a more appropriate name to start of the new year then with DJ NU ERA. Not just a great segue but most importantly a cool dude and good friend of mine. The great thing about people like him is that he is determined, receptive and understanding. These are basic and essential qualities that are becoming less and less active. I think there still installed in use except the standards are dropping.

On a more progressive note, I believe our generation like DJ NU ERA is comprehending the importance we carry through our creative expression. Last year ideas from artist and musicians alike where becoming integrated through unusual marketing. The huge increase in independent establishment has given large companies less control and us more freedom. Now, what was once being turned down is being chased by these companies striving to peel off a piece of our minds.

The fact that we are now beginning to solely generate money and create large amounts of attention has given companies an insincere reason to respect us as innovators, entrepreneurs and creative geniuses. Rent might be ridiculously high but creative property is at a all time low. Snatch a piece and own your own expression. People are starving for something new and now what they want, we have. 2011 is the people's!

Apple pie...is that what we compare ourselves to? Don't get me wrong it taste good but, besides a bakery, your grandmother, and The Food Network who really knows how to cook now a days (that's another post)? Do you even know the history behind the apple pie? What I'm trying to get across is that it's 2010 and as Americans we deserve another slogan. As of right now...I can't think of one but, I hold before you the subject and inspiration. I present to you the motorcycle. For some, America may have never been the home of the free. One solution to the masking the binds in your life is riding. Your our worries seem to whiff by when your going over 80 on two wheels. Besides, what's more American then a chopped up Harley, a leather jacket and a free mind (as I grunt in my best Tim Allen impression). There's something so beautiful about a rat. I'm not talking about the back of the subway platform New York City rat. I'm talking about the weathered, chopped up, nostalgic bike rat. Hanging at the 2010 Brooklyn Invitational in Greenpoint really rekindled my love for motorcycles. Here is some pictures I captured. Enjoy!

Serge's Photo Journal: NBHRN NY CH: 30 Days for 30 Years (Effort to Free Puerto Rican Political Prisoner, Carlos Alberto Torres)

30 Days for 30 Years was a 30 day interactive art installation that ran from March 4th to April 3rd in El Barrio, NYC. The Art installation was done to portray “The experience of Puerto Rican political prisoner, Carlos Alberto Torres”. Today April 4th marks the 30th year of Carlos Alberto’s incarceration.

The NBHRN has recreated the isolation of prison. A different participant each day has volunteered to spend 12 hours in a makeshift prison cell, with only a notepad, pencil and book for comfort.

This project also took place simultaneously in four locations: Chicago, New York, Philadelphia and San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Carlos Alberto Torres was arrested in 1980, accused of seditious conspiracy and sentenced to 78 years in federal prison.

The National Boricua Human Rights Network is an organization composed of Puerto Ricans in the US with 3 main concerns: (1) The decontamination of the island of Vieques to its people; (2) The release of the remaining Puerto Rican political prisoners; (3) An end to the continuing political repression and criminalization of the Puerto Rican community.

30 Days for 30 Years: A 30 day Interactive Art Installation
176 East 106th Street New York in Manhattan (next to the Fonda Boricua Lounge) and will run 30 days consecutively from March 4th- April 3rd

The National Boricua Human Rights Network is excited to announce the opening of an art installation titled: “The experience of Puerto Rican political prisoner Carlos Alberto: 30 Days for 30 years”

In response to the 30th year of incarceration of Puerto Rican Political Prisoner Carlos Alberto Torres, the NBHRN has recreated the isolation of prison. One participant has volunteered to spend 12 hours in a makeshift prison cell, with only notepad pencil and book for comfort.

The installation will take place next to the FB Lounge 172 East 106th Street New York in Manhattan and will run 30 days consecutively from March 4th- April 3rd. This project will be taking place simultaneously in four locations: Chicago, New York, Philadelphia and San Juan, Puerto Rico. People can stop by and view the cell and participants 12 hours a day and learn more about Carlos Alberto Torres and the other remaining Puerto Rican political prisoner, Oscar Lopez Rivera and Avelino Gonzalez Claudio.

Carlos Alberto Torres was arrested in 1980, accused of seditious conspiracy and sentenced to 78 years in federal prison. April 4, 2010 will mark the 30th year of his incarceration. In response to the 30th year of incarceration of longest held Puerto Rican Political Prisoner- Carlos Alberto Torres - the National Boricua Human Rights Network has re-created the isolation by the US Government of Puerto Rico’s patriot. It is also to bring awareness and to send a message to release them.

Pictures For Progression: From Two Different Walks of Life- Migs & The Chello Man @ Central Park

The beauty of it is that, I didn't plan this at all. Actually I took these photos at least 3 weeks apart. I was originally going to start a post based on what I captured from kicking it with Migs at Sisko's studio but, I was running through my photos and noticed the striking similarities between these two artist.

No matter where you grew up, your age, the color of your skin, man, or woman, music is a bond that unites us all in a unique way. I believe when all is said and done there is no program or book that can teach you the language of music. The true words of music are those that radiate from the heart and only those true believers listen in awe.
