<span style="color: red;"><span style="color: black;">New study shows 30% of your mobile data is wasted in the background<br /><br />Did you know that apps like Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp and Gmail drain your mobile data plans while working in the background? In a recent study based on app usage with Opera Max, we saw that over 30% of all data is used by apps running in the background.<br /><br />Background data is any data being used by your app when you’re not actively using it or when the phone screen is off.<br /><br />It includes things like your news app that’s constantly updating content and fetching ads, soaking up your data, even though you’ve not asked it to. This is especially risky when you’re on the move and using expensive mobile data.</span></span><i><span style="color: red;"><b></b></span></i><br />

<a name='more'></a>Mahavira is responsible for establishing the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dharma" title="Dharma">Dharma</a> followed by Jains even today. According to tradition, the chief disciple of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mahavira" title="Mahavira">Mahavira</a>, Ganadhara <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gautam_Swami" title="Gautam Swami">Gautam Swami</a> also attained complete knowledge (Kevalgyana) on this day, thus making Diwali one of the most important Jain festivals.<br />
<br />
</div>Mahavira attained his nirvana at the dawn of the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amavasya" title="Amavasya">amavasya</a> (new moon). According to the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kalpasutra" title="Kalpasutra">Kalpasutra</a> by <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acharya" title="Acharya">Acharya</a> <a class="mw-redirect" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bhadrabahu" title="Bhadrabahu">Bhadrabahu</a>, 3rd century BC, many gods were present there, illuminating the darkness. The following night was pitch black without the light of the gods or the moon. To symbolically keep the light of their master's knowledge alive:<br />
<blockquote>16 Gana-kings, 9 Malla and 9 Lichchhavi, of Kasi and Kosal, illuminated their doors. They said: "Since the light of knowledge is gone, we will make light of ordinary matter" ("गये से भवुज्जोये, दव्वुज्जोयं करिस्समो").<br />
</blockquote>Dipavali was first mentioned in <a class="mw-redirect" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jain" title="Jain">Jain</a> books as the date of the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nirvana" title="Nirvana">nirvana</a> of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mahavira" title="Mahavira">Mahavira</a>. In fact, the oldest reference to Diwali is a related word, dipalikaya, which occurs in Harivamsha-Purana, written by Acharya <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jinasena" title="Jinasena">Jinasena</a> <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diwali#cite_note-9">[10]</a> and composed in the <a class="mw-redirect" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saka_Era" title="Saka Era">Shaka Samvat</a> era in the year 705.<br />
<blockquote><div><strong>ततस्तुः लोकः प्रतिवर्षमादरत् प्रसिद्धदीपलिकयात्र भारते |<br />

</div></blockquote><blockquote>Translation: The gods illuminated Pavanagari by lamps to mark the occasion. Since that time, the people of Bharat celebrate the famous festival of "Dipalika" to worship the Jinendra (i.e. Lord Mahavira) on the occasion of his nirvana.<br />
</blockquote>Dipalikaya roughly translates as "light leaving the body". Dipalika, which can be roughly translated as "splenderous light of lamps", is used interchangeably with the word "Diwali".<br />
The way Jains celebrate Diwali is different in many respects. There is a note of asceticism in whatever the Jains do, and the celebration of Diwali is not an exception. The Jains celebrate Diwali during the month of Kartik for three days. During this period, among the Shvetambaras, devoted Jains observe fasting and chant the Uttaradhyayan Sutra, which contain the final pravachans of Lord Mahavira, and meditate upon him. Some Jains visit <a class="mw-redirect" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pavapuri" title="Pavapuri">Pavapuri</a> in Bihar where he attained Nirvan. In may temples special laddus are offered particularly on this day.<br />
<br />
<div><b>Vira Nirvana <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samvat" title="Samvat">Samvat</a></b>: The Jain year starts with Pratipada following Diwali. Vira Nirvana <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samvat" title="Samvat">Samvat</a> 2534 starts with Diwali 2007. The Jain businesspeople traditionally started their accounting year from Diwali. The relationship between the Vir and Shaka era is given in Titthogali Painnaya and Dhavalaa by Acharya <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virasena" title="Virasena">Virasena</a>:<br />
</div><div><strong>पंच य मासा पंच य वास छच्चेव होन्ति वाससया|<br />
परिणिव्वुअस्स अरिहितो तो उप्पन्नो सगो राया||</strong><br />
</div>Thus the Nirvana occurred 605 years and 5 months before the Saka era.<br />
On 21 October 1974 the 2500th Nirvana Mahotsava was celebrated by all the Jain throughout India.<br />

WHAT IS MOUTH ULCERS ?<br />
<br />
Painful ulcers or canker sores are sometimes found within the mouth. Usually there is only one ulcer, but occasionally several ulcers may develop at once. These may arise from several different causes, such as poor oral hygiene, nutritional deficiencies, worry, insufficient rest and heavy smoking. Any slight pressure on the gums may cause bleeding. <br />
<br />
Ulcerations may form on the gums and about the mouth, particularly between the teeth. Swallowing and talking are painful; there may be excessive salivation and bad breath, and the inflammation may extend to the tonsils and throat. A mild fever may be present in this condition. The first sign of the sore may be a tingling, burning sensation inside the mouth. They can occur either singly or in groups. They are usually white or yellow in color, surrounded by red halos. Usually they heal within 7 to 10 days. The recurrent, bothersome form of mouth ulcers is known as recurrent apthous stomatitis or simply apthous ulcer. They take several more days to heal. <br />
<br />
There may be a family history to develop canker sores, as they often run in families. Mouth ulcers may develop in response to a mouth injury such as dental procedures or aggressive tooth cleaning. Canker sores may also occur at the site of a bite when the tongue or cheek is bitten. They can be triggered by emotional stress, dietary deficiencies (especially iron, folic acid, or vitamin B12), menstrual periods, hormonal changes, food allergies, and similar situations. They occur most commonly with viral infections. <br />
<br />
The membrane of the mouth may be very dry or exceedingly moist. There is pain on nursing, eating or drinking; the pain varies according to the condition or stage of the disease. The pains may be sharp or sticking if the mouth is dry or smarting and raw if the mouth is full of saliva. These ulcers may be broad and superficial or deep and narrow. Small ulcers may combine together and may form large ulcers on the side of the tongue or in the buccal cavities. </div>

<span style="font-family: CenturySchoolbook;"> <div style="text-align: justify;">
Calcutta Public Library was established in 1836. It was not a Government institution. It was running on a proprietary basis. Every person subscribing Rs. 300/- in one payment or three instalments was to be considered a proprietor. Poor students and others were allowed to use the library free of charge for a specified period of time. The then Governor General, Lord Metcalf transferred 4,675 volumes from the library of the College of Fort William to the Calcutta Public Library. This and donations of books from individuals formed the nucleus of the library. Prince Dwarkanath Tagore was the first proprietor of the Calcutta Public Library.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Both the Indian and foreign books, specially from Britain, were purchased for the library. In the report of 1850 we find that the library started collecting books in Gujarati, Marathi, Pali, Ceylonese and Punjabi. Donations were regularly made by individuals as well as by the Government of Bengal and North Western Provinces. The Calcutta Public Library had a unique position as the first public library in this part of the country. Such a well-organised and efficiently run library was rare even in Europe during the first half of the 19th century. Because of the efforts of the Calcutta Public Library, the National Library has many extremely rare books and journals in its collection.</div>

<strong>Some Tips About Breastfeeding</strong></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
In recent years, more and more hospitals have been encouraging mothers and largely, parents, to breastfeed their children. The act of nursing of one's child is beneficial to both mother and child. Therefore, if you choose to provide for your child in this manner, there are a few tips that can be helpful in this journey.</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong><br /></strong></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>Don't Wait</strong></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As soon as you are physically able to nurse your child, go ahead and do so. Do not wait until you leave the hospital to begin. Among other things, it will not only convey to your baby that this is how he/she will be satisfied when hungry, but it can also quicken the bonding process.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong><br /></strong></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>More Milk</strong></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Many mothers are concerned and at times even scared that they may not produce enough milk to satisfy their child. This is understandable and although every woman's body is different, as a rule, the more you allow the child to nurse, the more milk your breast will produce. So, keep offering it to the child.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong><br /></strong></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>Clues from Baby</strong></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Most often than not, as a last resort, babies will cry when they are hungry, but before they get to that point, they may indicate to you, in other ways that they are hungry. One of these ways is putting their finger and or their hand into their mouths.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Another clue is turning their heads as if looking for the nipple. So, when you notice these clues, jump in there and do not wait until the baby begins to cry to meet his/her need.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
By observing and acting on these clues, it can help to teach the child that he/she does not have to cry, before their hunger need is met.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong><br /></strong></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>Length of Time</strong></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It is usually recommended that a baby be nursed on one breast for about fifteen minutes, burp the baby and then offer the next breast for another fifteen minutes. However, I find that for the first few months they may spend as much as one hour, nursing. Therefore, make sure that you are in a comfortable position and allow the baby to tell you when he/she is full, instead of following the clock.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong><br /></strong></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>Don't Give Up</strong></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Keep at it and although at times it may seem demanding, it is well worth it.</div>

<u><span style="color: red;"><b>HIGH BLOOD CHOLESTROL INFORMATION LIBRARY</b></span></u></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Cholesterol, a yellowish fatty substance, is one of the essential ingredients of the body. Although it is essential to life, it has a bad reputation, being a major villain in heart disease. Every person with high blood cholesterol is regarded as a potential candidate for heart attack or a stroke. Most of the cholesterol found in the body is produced in the liver. However, about twenty to thirty per cent generally comes from the food we eat. Cholesterol is measured in milligrams per 100 millimetres of blood. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The normal level of cholesterol varies between 150 - 200 mg per 100 ml. In blood, cholesterol occurs in combination with certain lipids (fats), hence, known as lipoptroteins. There are two main types of lipoproteins: a low density one (LDL) and a high density one (HDL). The low density lipoprotein is the one which is considered harmful and is associated with cholesterol deposits in blood vessels. The higher the ratio of LDL to the total cholesterol, the greater will be the risk of arterial damage and heart disease. HDL, on the other hand, plays a salutory role by helping remove cholesterol from circulation and thereby reducing the risk of heart disease. </div>

High Blood Cholesterol Causes</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Hereditary</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Hypercholesterolaemia or increase in cholesterol is mainly a hereditary disorder.</div>
</div>
<strong></strong> <br />
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>Excessive consumption of rich foods</strong></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It is also caused by taking rich foods and fried foods: excessive consumption of milk and its products like ghee, butter, and cream; white flour, sugar, cakes, pastries, biscuits, cheese, and ice cream; and non-vegetarian foods like meat, fish, and eggs.</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>Smoking, Drinking and Stress</strong></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Other causes of increase in cholesterol are irregularity in habits, smoking and drinking alcohol. Stress has also been found to be a major cause of increased level of cholesterol.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<u>High Blood Cholesterol Home Remedies</u> </div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
High Blood Cholesterol treatment using Lecithin</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Lecithin, also a fatty food substance and the most abundant of the phospholipids, is beneficial in case of increase in cholesterol level. It has the ability to break up cholesterol into small particles which can be easily handled by the system. With sufficient intake of lecithin, cholesterol cannot build up against the walls of the arteries and veins. Lecithin also increases the production of bile acids made from cholesterol, thereby reducing its amount in the blood, Egg yolk, vegetable oils, wholegrain cereals, soyabeans, and unpasturised milk are rich sources of lecithin. The cells of the body are also capable of synthesizing it as needed, if several of the B vitamins are present.</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
High Blood Cholesterol treatment using Vitamins</div>

Vitamins B6, choline, and inositol are particularly effective in reducing the level of blood cholesterol. Wheat germ, yeast, or vitamin B extracted from bran contain high quantities of these vitamins. Vitamin E also elevates blood lecithin and reduces cholesterol. The patient should take liberal quantities of vitamin E-rich foods such as sunflower seeds, safflower, soyabean oils, butter, and sprouted seed and grains.</div>

High Blood Cholesterol treatment using Fibre</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The amount of fibre in the diet also influences the cholesterol levels and LDL cholesterol can be lowered by taking diets rich in fibres. The most significant sources of dietary fibre are unprocessed wheat bran, whole cereals such as wheat, rice, barley, rye; legumes such as potatoes, carrots, beet, and turnips, fruits such as mangoes and guavas; and leafy vegetables such as cabbage, lady's fingers, lettuce and celery. <u>High Blood Cholesterol Diet</u></div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>Avoid Rich Foods</strong></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
To reduce the risk of heart disease, it is essential to lower the level of LDL and increase the level of HDL. This can be achieved by a change in diet and lifestyle. As a first step, foods rich in cholesterol and saturated fats, which lead to an increase in the LDL level, should be reduced to the minimum. These foods are eggs, organic meats, cheese, butter, bacon, beef, and whole milk.</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Avoid food with animal origin; Avoid palm and coconut oil</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Virtually all foods of animal origin, as well as two vegetable oils, namely, coconut and palm, are high in saturated fats, and these should be replaced by polyunsaturated fats such as corn, safflower, and soyabean, and sesame oils which tend to lower the level of LDL.</div>
</div>
<div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>Drink at least 10 glasses of water each day</strong></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Persons with high blood cholesterol level should drink at least eight to ten glasses of water every day, as copious drinking of water stimulates the excretory activity of the skin and kidneys. This, in turn, facilitates elimination of excessive cholesterol from the system.</div>

</div>
<div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>Regular Physical Exercise</strong></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Regular physical exercise also plays an important role in lowering LDL cholesterol and in raising the level of protective HDL. It also promotes circulation and helps maintain the blood flow to every part of the body. Jogging or brisk walking, swimming, bicycling, and playing badminton are excellent forms of exercise.</div>

<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: black; font-family: georgia,serif;">The two major female sex hormones in the body are estrogen and progesterone. They are produced in a pair of organs in the abdomen, known as the ovaries. The ovaries start producing large quantities of estrogen when a girl reaches about 12 years of age. This enables her to grow rapidly and develop into a normal young woman. The commencement of menstruation at this time heralds the reproductive phase of her life, when she can have children. The main problems relating to menstrual flow are pre-menstrual tension, painful menstruation, stoppage of menstruation, and excessive menstruation. These disorders are not uncommon. </span></div>

<span style="color: black; font-family: georgia,serif;">The various disorders relating to menstrual flow, being systemic in origin, can be tackled only by treating the system as a whole, so as to remove the toxicity from the body and build up the general health level of the sufferer. To undertake such a scheme of all-round, health-building treatment, the sufferer should begin with an all-fruit diet for about five days, taking three meals a day of fresh, juicy fruits. However, if there is excessive weight loss during the all-fruit diet, those already underweight may add a glass of milk to each fruit meal.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: georgia,serif; font-size: x-small;">Do you long for shiny tresses, but lack the funds for expensive products and treatments? Don't despair - you don't have to be a supermodel to have gleaming locks. Before you mourn your lackluster strands, head to the kitchen and try these simple solutions to lock in shine the natural way. <br /> <br />Sun, wind, saltwater, pollution, and chemicals are just some of the shine-depleting elements your hair may be subjected to on a daily basis. They can strip your hair of its natural oils and create build-up leaving it dull and lifeless. Fortunately, Mother Nature has a few remedies to share. <br /> <br /><strong>The Alluring Avocado</strong><br />Mash an avocado (one avocado for short hair, two for long) in a bowl until it forms a thick paste. Spread the paste on your hair from root to tip and leave on for 20 minutes. Shampoo and rinse. Avocados are high in fatty acids and nutrients. Feed your hair! <br /> <br /><strong>Amazing Apple Cider Vinegar</strong><br />Mix half a cup of apple cider vinegar with one quart of water and use as a hair rinse after your regular shampoo. Rich in alpha-hydroxy acids, apple cider vinegar helps break down residue build-up leaving your hair soft and full of shine. Rinse your hair with apple cider vinegar and it will be shining in no time. <br /> <br /><strong>Eggs Over Olive Oil</strong> <br />Beat together two eggs for short hair, three for long, and add in three tablespoons of olive oil. Coat your hair from root to tip and leave on for 30 minutes. Shampoo and rinse. Eggs contain eleven essential nutrients and are packed with protein. Combine them with olive oil for conditioning and nourishment and you have one powerful duo. <br /> <br /><strong>Coconut Craze</strong><br />Warm three tablespoons of coconut oil and gently comb into your hair from root to tip. Wrap your hair in a hot towel and let the oil sit for 30 minutes. Shampoo and rinse. Loaded with antioxidants, coconut oil works to smooth dry and damaged cuticles and lock in shine. <br /> <br />Life doesn't have to be dull and neither does your hair! It's time to shine! Open your cabinet and start mixing, then sit back and bask in your natural glow. </span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">JISC and Oxford University Library Services hosted a meeting in Oxford on Thursday to mark the conclusion of JISC's <em>Libraries of the Future</em> Campaign. The event took place in the afternoon, with a series of challengingly short presentations from a set of well-known librarians and commentators: Sarah Thomas, Bodley's Librarian at Oxford; Chris Batt – former Chief Executive of the <a href="http://www.mla.gov.uk/" target="_blank">Museums, Libraries & Archives Council</a>; Santiago de la Mora, of Google Books (Europe); Peter Murray-Rust, Reader in Molecular Informatics at Cambridge; and Robert Darnton, Harvard University Librarian. The event was <a href="http://www.jisc.ac.uk/whatwedo/campaigns/librariesofthefuture/debate.aspx" target="_blank">amplified</a> - in the way JISC is now becoming very good at – with bloggers and microbloggers in place, a Twitter-feed beamed onto one of the three projection screens; a Second Life version of the event (featuring the usual Star Wars cast of avatars) displayed on another; and a live video-stream of the event available from JISC's website. In fact, it was possibly overamplified, as I realised at one point when I checked the website to see not only that a particular colleague was obviously present in the audience somewhere behind me, but that his laptop screen was also in view (fortunately displaying only innocent windows, as far as I could see). Next moment, a tweet appeared on the Twitter-feed screen exclaiming about the fact that people's screens were visible. While there are some obvious benefits to amplification, the splitting of attention that it engenders can sometimes seem to defeat the point of having a conference, which is an opportunity for concentration. I expect we will move towards a happy medium in due course, and JISC is leading the way in helping us find it.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">There were several useful insights. Sarah Thomas presented the Bodleian as intertwining past and future with the interesting phrase used in its literature about the New Bodleian, <em>Rediscovering our radical past</em>. Chris Batt thought that librarians should turn themselves into 'Knowledge Warriors' (and a glance at the Second Life audience suggested some had already done so). Santiago de la Mora, talking about Google having digitised seven million books, estimated that 75% of books in library collections were in-copyright but out of print, and so off-web. Google wanted to 'bring them back to life'. Peter Murray-Rust's presentation was eagerly awaited, since he had prepared for it by blogging as he did his research over the last couple of weeks. I had sent him a comment, of which he reproduced only the first paragraph in his blog (which gave my theory as to why so few librarians had responded to his requests for views). The piece he omitted sketched out my interests in how libraries need to be plural and address issues of multiple scale, and what this means for library leadership. It said the following:</span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">We have many opinions within our group about the future of libraries. Lorcan Dempsey, who leads the Research Division, talks about them a lot on his <a href="http://orweblog.oclc.org/" target="_blank">blog</a>, as do my colleagues and I who work with our 'RLG Partnership' - an international grouping of research libraries, museums and archivists – in <a href="http://hangingtogether.org/">hangingtogether.org</a>. Some recent library future-gazing has been prompted by the recent visit to OCLC in Dublin Ohio by Richard Ovenden, Associate Librarian at the University of Oxford, whose Distinguished Seminar presentation was <a href="http://hangingtogether.org/?p=642" target="_blank">commented on</a> in our blog by Merrilee Proffit. Merrilee mentions the recent <a href="http://taigaforum.org/documents/Taiga%204%20Statements%20After.pdf" target="_blank">Taiga Provocative Statements</a> document, and our own <a href="http://www.oclc.org/programs/ourwork/documents/infocontext_v1-0.pdf" target="_blank">Information Contexts</a> document of almost two years ago.............</span></div>

The library of the Technische Universität München (TUM) has recently twinned itself with Thammasat University Library in Thailand. It provides a link to the <em>Library Twinning Declaration</em> from its <a href="http://www.ub.tum.de/start.jsp?lang=en" target="_blank">home page</a>:<br />
<blockquote>
<strong>Thammasat University Thailand and Technische Universität München</strong><br />Modern academic libraries have a central role in providing information for study and research in a world that is evolving from an information society model towards a communication society of sharing and interaction.<br />
Cooperation and support are cornerstones of the efficient development of standards and best practice.<br />
In the spirit of a global professional fellowship, Thammasat University Thailand and Technische Universität München are proud to announce a special alliance of both their university libraries. <br />
In the context of this library twinning declaration TUT and TUM library are committed to<br />
<br />
<li>furthering friendship and understanding by dialogue between their staffs</li>
<li>sharing knowledge and experience for the benefit of their patrons</li>
<br />
The library managements involved want to encourage among their members of staff<br />
<br />
<li>a mutual interest and understanding of the working environment of each other's libraries</li>
<li>a mutual concern for the improvement of each other's services</li>
<li>an exchange of correspondence and information to enhance the professional activities of each other's libraries</li>
<br />
We believe such a formal relationship would be beneficial to the libraries, their staffs and patrons and facilitate the exchange of professional information and programmes between the two libraries.<br />
Together we want to address common issues to improve the local knowledge infrastructure and be a part of the cutting edge of library service development.<br />
By this declaration the libraries of Thammasat University Thailand and Technische Universität München evidence their mutual willingness to give their full support to a thriving and efficient cooperation. <br />
On behalf of the libraries<br />
Ms Srichan Chancheewa<br />Director Thammasat University Libraries<br />
Reiner Kallenborn<br />TUM University Librarian</blockquote>
TUM Library has similar relationships with Nanyang Technological University Library, Singapore, and Dublin City University.<br />
<div>
When I worked at Edinburgh University Library, it partnered with Johns Hopkins University in a similar spirit of mutual cooperation, under a Partnership Agreement. The two libraries also expressed a wish for staff exchanges and saw each other as 'preferred partners' for bids to grant-awarding bodies. Such agreements can be useful, though can also be subject to the vagaries of changing senior personnel at the twinned institutions (and so can evaporate when the parents of the twins leave or move on). I'd be interested to know of twin arrangements which have created significant value which survives to new generations of library managements. In particular, how do the twins progress their <em>mutual concern for the improvement of each other's services</em>, and is there any sharing of infrastructure to advance this? As we consider the appropriateness of particular scales for particular objectives, twins are the smallest-scale consortia that can exist. Are there benefits to that, and what are they? And is a library which is twinned with three different partners in different countries effectively in an international consortium of four?</div>

<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
What does "Namaste" mean?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>Aadil Palkhivala says that</strong></div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The gesture <strong>Namaste</strong> represents the belief that </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
there is a Divine spark within each of us that is located </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
in the heart chakra. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The gesture is an acknowledgment of the soul </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
in one by the soul in another. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>"Nama" means bow, </strong></div>
<strong><div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>"as" means I, and </strong></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>"te" means you. </strong></div>
</strong><div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<u>Therefore, Namaste literally means "bow me you" or "I bow to you."</u> </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
To perform Namaste, we place the hands together at the heart charka, </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
close the eyes, and bow the head. It can also be done by placing the hands </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
together in front of the third eye, bowing the head, and then </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
bringing the hands down to the heart. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This is an especially deep form of respect. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Although in the West the word "<strong>Namaste</strong>" is usually spoken in conjunction </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
with the gesture, in India, it is understood that the gesture itself signifies <strong>Namaste</strong>, </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
and therefore, it is unnecessary to say the word while bowing. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
We bring the hands together at the heart chakra to increase the flow of </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Divine love. Bowing the head and closing the eyes helps the mind </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
surrender to the Divine in the heart. One can do <strong>Namaste</strong> to oneself as a </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
meditation technique to go deeper inside the heart chakra; </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
when done with someone else, it is also a beautiful, albeit quick, meditation. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
For a teacher and student, <strong>Namaste</strong> allows two individuals to come together </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
energetically to a place of connection and timelessness, free from the bonds of </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
ego-connection. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
If it is done with deep feeling in the heart and with the mind surrendered, </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
a deep union of spirits can blossom. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Ideally, <strong>Namaste</strong> should be done both at the beginning and at the end of class. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Usually, it is done at the end of class because the mind is less active and </div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
the energy in the room is more peaceful. The teacher initiates <strong>Namaste </strong></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
as a symbol of gratitude and respect toward her students and her own teachers</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
and in return invites the students to connect with their lineage, </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
thereby allowing the truth to flow the truth that we are all one </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
when we live from the heart. </div>

One third of its members retire after every two years. The elections to the Rajya Sabha are indirect. The allotted quota of every State is elected by the elected members of the Legislative Assembly of that State. The election is conducted in accordance with the system of proportional representation by a single transferable vote. Anglo-Indians: The President may, if he is of the opinion that the Anglo-Indian community is not adequately represented in the Lok Sabha, nominate not more than two members of that community to the House of People (Lok Sabha). The Lok Sabha Secretariat comes under the direct supervision of the Speaker of the Lok Sabha. The Secretary General of the Lok Sabha, who is chief of the Secretariat, is appointed by the President of India as per Article 98 of the Constitution. Except in the case of Money Bills, the Constitution provides equality of status of the two Houses. The Speaker is elected by members of the Lok Sabha for a period of 5 years. The term of the Lok Sabha can be extended for one year at a time. The Lok Sabha can be dissolved before the expiry of its normal term of five years by the President.</p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><br></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">Source: Google Reader</p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">Titled by: My Information Library <br> </p> <div class="blogger-post-footer">Thank you for visiting my feed. <div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><b>HOLLYWOOD’S NAME</b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">The distinction of giving Hollywood its name goes to Daeida Wilcox. She and her real estate developing husband, Harvey Wilcox, came from Kansas to Los Angeles in 1883 and in 1886 purchased 120 acres in the Cahuenga Valley at, what is now, Hollywood Blvd. and Cahuenga Ave. The following year, Daeida traveled by train to her old home in the east. On the train, Mrs. Wilcox met a woman who described her summer home, which she called Hollywood. Daeida was so enamored with the name that, when she returned home, she prevailed on her husband to name there property Hollywood. The following year, in 1887, Mr. Wilcox recorded the area’s first real estate subdivision, which he appropriately called HOLLYWOOD. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><b>HOLLYWOOD BECOMES A CITY</b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Shortly after the turn of the century, the residents of the Cahuenga Valley were faced with three pressing problems. The streets were not getting the attention in proportion to the tax being levied by the county; a lack of school facilities and a growing sentiment for prohibition. In August, 1903, a petition was submitted to the Los Angeles Board of Supervisors requesting the incorporation of thE City of Hollywood. The election for city hood was held on November 14, 1903 with voting lasting until 5:00 PM. After all the ballots were counted, the vote was eighty-eight for incorporation and seventy-seven against. Hollywood became a city of the sixth class with geographic boundaries extending from Normandie on the east, to Fairfax on the west, and from the top of the Santa Monica Mountains on the north to DeLongpre and Fountain avenues on the south. City hood for Hollywood only lasted six years. Hollywood’s population had grown too rapidly for the then existing water and municipal facilities. Annexation to the City of Los Angeles would assure the burgeoning community of adequate water, sewage and municipal services. The election, held in 1910, was an overwhelming victory for annexation.</span></div>
